Code club

It's going to be a crazy start the school year, but I have been running 100 mph in my head thinking about things to do with the students and finding some new resources for the students to engage learning even more.

One item I am excited about is having the first Code Club in the state of Nebraska!  Code Club World is a worldwide network of free volunteer-led after-school coding clubs for children aged 9-11.  We are going to try implementing it as part of the normal computer class and then schedule some time after school to go deeper with it.

The mission of CodeClubWorld.org is to give every child in the world the chance to learn to code by providing project materials and a volunteering framework that supports the running of after-school coding clubs.  They provide free software for students as well as project guides for us to follow.

Terms 1 and 2 involve using Scratch and Term 3 begins using HTML& CSS to teach the students the building blocks of web work and will help them build their own website.

I am pretty excited about being able to help our kids learn to code (and learn some new things myself).
